Located on 1 Queen’s way, the VMH was envisaged by Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of British India, as a memorial to the deceased Queen Victoria. Hence, according to Curzon this memorial should take the form of a great marble hall, which was to be erected on the Calcutta Maidan to serve primarily as a monument to the Queen and secondarily as a national gallery and Valhalla of the Indian Empire.

New Town is a planned satellite city of Kolkata, India. It comes under North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is close to Kolkata and covered by New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA)

Like the Taj Mahal, Victoria Memorial is also built using Makrana marble. The dome and other structural elements of the structure also echo the design of Taj Mahal.

It is the longest cable-stayed bridge in India and one of the longest in Asia with a total length of 823 meters (2,700 ft).

At the time of its construction, it was the 3rd longest cantilever bridge. Now, it is the sixth-longest bridge of its type in the world!
